Onaping Falls, Ontario

Onaping Falls (A.Y. Jackson Lookout ). A site immortalized by Group of Seven founding member A.Y. Jackson's painting "Spring on the Onaping River". Located 45km west of Sudbury on hwy 144. The falls consist of a series of small, cascading-style drops (about 4 or 5) and a a final large drop ("The High Falls"). The commonly cited height for the entire set of falls is 50m, while the official height of High Falls is 24m.

In 1953 A.Y. Jackson, one of the founding members of the "Group of Seven", visited this site and painted "Spring on the Onaping River". Two years later the painting was purchased by a group of students and placed in the Sudbury Secondary School. Shortly after Jackson's death in April of 1974 the painting was stolen and has not been recovered.

Onaping Falls was used as a location for the filming of the movie "Men With Brooms".

Mixed media archival pigments and dimensional acrylic on archival canvas based on an original photograph taken by the artist. The finished mixed media paintings are each unique and original and individually signed by the artist. The finished picture should last for many generations.

18"X24" and 24"X36" pieces are on canvas mounted on stretcher bars ready for framing. A black border on the side of the stretcher bars provides a finished appearance that can be used without framing. 9"X12" pieces are mounted on a hardboard backing, ready for framing. The 8"X10" prints are mounted on 11"x14" black matting, ready for framing.
